Assignment 1a : Low Energy building Analysis
The module emphasizes the role of energy efficiency in low energy building in architectural design through an analysis and evaluation of a selected low energy building (Residential/Institutional/Commercial/Office/Hospitality). It is vital to be aware of the differences of the implementation of energy efficient strategies when discussing low-energy buildings or energy-efficient buildings. To consider the implementation as holistic components of architectural design, which may be critically assessed with theories followed by performance in practical. Specific topics of energy efficient strategies to be addressed and identified namely façade, building system, management, and how these affect the performance of the building. The module equips students with knowledge of building science and skills in the use of effective technology in energy and building design as a whole.
Assignment 1a : Low Energy building Analysis
Duration: 6 weeks
Objectives:
-
To identify specific energy efficient strategies and its implementation
-
To describe and understand the significance of energy demands and its impact in low energy buildings particularly.
We were to select a precedent study of Low Energy Building/Net Zero (Residential/Hospitality/Institution/Office/Commercial) of their choice from an existing building locally or internationally (approved by the Tutors). a) Discuss the impact of the energy efficient strategies implemented to the built environment on the global scene and understand how these strategies affect the energy demands in the chosen building. b) List the potential inventory of its energy efficient strategies on (Façade, Lighting System, HVAC System, Waste Management, Renewable Energy used, Waste Management) and choose ONE only for the development of the content. c) The inventory list can be described or illustrated with the combination of graphs, text, images, infographics, sketches etc. d) Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) feedback can be extracted to support the content.
