Architectural Design 3
(ARC60408)

The module emphasizes on ‘experiencing space and place’ in architecture. In the subject, students are introduced to, firstly, an exploration of spatial typologies and poetics in architecture; and secondly, the concept of neighborhood and community. In their preliminary design work, students engage with studies and design of different spatial typologies (i.e. linear, spiral, spine, centric, etc.) for a simple dwelling space which explores the idea of architectural tectonics and experiences. Subsequently, the major project involves the design of a small-scale community building (e.g. gallery, small library) in the open landscape/suburban condition which engages with the spirit of place inherent within the site, the site topography, history and socio-cultural events. The design work explores the plan-section integration to achieve architectural form that is tectonically expressive, functional, and responsive to its site. At the same time, design exercise relates to spaces with values and culture, while emphasizing the role of the society in the creative architectural design process.

Computer Applications
(ARC60604)

This course will be introducing students to the world of Computer Generated 3-Dimensional drawings. The course will be taught with minimal handouts but there will be lectures and tutorial sessions for the students in order to experiment with the software. Students are advised to practice daily, as only through practice will they be able to understand and master the software. They are also encouraged to carry out self-research in regards to the other capabilities and more complicated features of 3DS Max and Revit Architecture. Students will also be taught the potential of “cross breeding” different softwares, in order to garner the necessary desired results for their visualisation work.

Sustainable Design Policies and Regulations
(ARC61604)

This module introduces students to environmental issues and provides some in-depth understanding of the complexities and influences that built environment causes to the natural environment. The module intents to instill environmental literacy and understandings of policies related to sustainable design and practices.
