Assignment 2 : Energy Audit E-Report
This assignment emphasizes the role of a walkthrough audit as a process used to establish an overall practice of the potential energy savings through visual presentation. HVAC, lighting, building maintenance and other factors affecting energy consumption of the building (in this context your own home). Simple calculation could be done to quantify the current and potential implementation of the identified Energy Conservation Measure (ECM). Usually it is carried out in 1-2 days with/without a team depending on the scale and complexity of the building with the usage of the tools (lux meter, thermometer, hygrometer) will serve the purpose. For this exercise, students will be carrying out a field measurement to establish the incoming load profile, major energy usage (segmentation), HVAC and lighting system of your own home. Followed by suggestions on the Renewable Management System (Passive Cooling/Lighting, Retrofitting Lighting system with LED light source/dimmer, Effective Waste Management, Controlling Heat/Glare with Façade or device) to achieve energy efficiency.
Assignment 2 : Energy Audit E-Report
Duration: 8 weeks
Objectives:
-
To identify the principles of energy efficient systems and overall practice of potential energy savings through inspection
-
To evaluate energy consumption and the implementation of its strategies to reduce energy usage in design to deliver low energy architectural design
We were to carry out a walk-through Audit process of your own home and produce an Audit report (Individual) on the existing and to propose strategies to achieve energy savings through focus on specific topics (Passive Cooling/Lighting, Retrofitting Lighting system with LED light source/dimmer, Effective Waste Management, Controlling Heat/Glare with Façade or device) to achieve energy efficiency The report is based on the followings: 1. Façade and Climate Based Profile of your own home (introduction on orientation, sun path and wind direction, external and internal temperature, humidity, illuminance level, air speed) 2. Energy Load Profiles (working on hourly, daily, weekly, monthly of electrical appliances energy load) 3. Energy Consumption Pattern (graphs, chart on hourly, daily load profile) 4. Energy System and Energy Saving Potential (proposed strategies) 5. Energy Management (Waste/Water observation on water usage and occupant behaviour as well as for future recommendations to save energy)
