Assignment 1: Famous Architect's Building: Materials Application
The application of materials on buildings are varies. The choice and placement of the materials on buildings can distinguish the appearance and image of a building. This project is designed as an exposure for students on building materials that are universally used in building design. Hence, students are required to choose any ONE of the listed architects to conduct a case study on buildings designed by the architect in the context of building materials applications as architectural and structural features together with its relation to the design concept of the chosen buildings. This online research exercise aims in helping the students to explore and understand on the reasoning of the choice of materials used on buildings together with their characters, properties, the influence, and installation on the building design in general.

Objectives:

To distinguish between architectural and structural materials.

To describe types of building materials used for buildings.

To demonstrate the installation of building materials on buildings.
We were to conduct a research on the brief background of the architect, the historical background of the chosen building and include clear images and information of FIVE (5) architectural building materials and TWO (2) structural building materials, respectively. We were to also include sketches of one (1) material’s installation on the selected building and relevant images of the chosen building (floor layout, elevations, three-dimensional perspective etc.) Next, we had to do a materials’ analysis and selection in relation to the building’s design concept/theme and the overall conclusion on the choice and application of materials on the chosen building.
