Project 2 (Experiencing space-The Discovery Centre)
The final project requires students to individually explore architectural response within the context of the site and programmatic requirements of a small single volume public building as the visitor discovery center about the given place. The purpose of the building is to showcase interpretive materials related to the given context/place. Emphasis is given to design solutions integrating site, program, and spatial poetics. The project is phased into key milestones as follows:
(a) Site Analysis, Site Response and Design Concept (Ability to identify and interpret characteristics/ response of site into a generating idea)
(b) Sketch Design (Ability to translate the generating idea into a workable and efficient design in response to site and use)
(c) Final Presentation (Ability to synthesize site, program and poetics and communicate it through drawings)
Project 2a (The Discovery Centre(Genius Loci))
Duration: 2 weeks
Objectives:

Generate design through conscious consideration of spatial typologies, section-plan relationship, contextual conditions and considerations of human scale, natural light, materiality, and textures.

Document, interpret and analyze the physical conditions of the site and ‘genius loci’ of place and generate design based on the character and conditions of the site context.
We were to collect data from our site which is located at Kampung Sungai Haji Dorani and analyze the site. Lastly, we were to present our findings, analysis, response of the site in presentation video and presentation boards. Individually we were sketch spme abstract drawing, some drawings and initial idea of our personal interpretation.

Project 2b (The Discovery Center (Visitor Center for Jalan Terusan Utama Parit 4, Kg Sg Hj Dorani)
Duration: 9 weeks
Objectives:

Resolve basic building construction, materials, and environmental considerations.

Produce and justify a design of a small-scale community building within an open/suburban context, following analysis and exploration of the site, the user requirements, environmental sustainability, buildability, and spatial poetics.

Communicate design through effective visual and expressive verbal presentation to peer, tutors, and architects from industry.
We were to design a two story height, standalone building where one level of underground is allowed within the site given. The building should be poetic and the space should be poetic while capturing the genius loci of the site to let the visitor to discover the visitor centre while experiencing the beauty and genius loci of Kampung Sungai Haji Dorani, Sungai Besar.
